Purposely "uncomfortable" to read. This is a brilliantly written satire about white privilege, white fragility, and cultural appropriation.

Well researched historical fiction based on an unsolved murder. Short chapters take on the perspectives of various characters to give the reader insight and empathy for how the events rippled out to impact others. Some information started to feel a bit redundant as the main character mulled over facts with little progress, though this does allow the reader to share in their frustration for the unsolved mystery.

I very much enjoyed this novel. I learned so much about a part of our nation's history that I hadn't really thought about before. Ms. Russell is a wonderful storyteller!
