NYCHA has been working closely with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Listed below are services being provided by City agencies to assist New Yorkers during the novel COVID-19 outbreak:
We are going to provide information on the following programs:
- Banking Services
- NYCHA's Rent Hardship Program
- Department of Education Grab and Go Sites
- DFTA (Department for the Aging) Food Sites
- COVID-19 Protocols
Banking Services
Amalgamated Bank wanted to alert residents that in consultant with their regulators, and in an effort to abide by social distancing regulations, Amalgamated Bank is narrowing their open branch network.
- There are 3 branches that accept NYCHA payments which we are temporarily closing. They are in LIC (across from Queensbridge), on Burnside Ave in the Bronx and in Flushing/Electchester.
- Amalgamated Bank will continue to have just 2 branches open from 9 to 2pm, Monday to Friday. They are in Coop City and Union Square.
NYCHA's Rent Hardship Program
NYCHA's rent hardship program provides assistance to residents who require rent reductions due to income losses.
A household may qualify for a rent reduction based on rent hardship if all the following conditions are met:

There is at least a 5% reduction to gross income

Current rent is more than 30% of the net household income
-
Reduction in income has lasted at least two months

Department of Education Grab and Go Sites
Department of Education is offering Grab and Go breakfast and lunch, for students. Any student can pick up breakfast and lunch from any DOE building.
- Grab and Go are from Monday to Friday at any DOE building
- Locations for food pick up starting from March 23rd, will be be posted on the DOE website linked below.
- Download the School Food app and pick up food by skipping the line!

DFTA (Department for the Aging) Food Sites
NYCHA, DFTA, Dept. of Health, and other City agencies are working together to ensure meals continue for seniors who can no longer attend senior center programming.
- All senior centers are currently Grab and Go sites for seniors to pick up food
- Call Aging Connect at 212.244.6469 on DFTA's modifications to services

COVID-19 Protocols
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene advises New Yorkers on working together and staying home to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in New York City. DOHMH advises that if you go out for essential needs, work or to get fresh air, keep distance between yourself and others.
- If you are sick, stay home.
- Protect yourself and others, by regularly washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds
- Reduce overcrowding, telecommute if possible.
