Rams Drop Mountain West Game At San Diego State, 78-65

Isaiah Stevens records the 17th points-assist double-double in CSU history
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Colorado State faced another early run from San Diego State and couldn't come back this time, falling to the defending Mountain West champions, 78-65, Monday night at Viejas Arena. With the loss, the Rams slipped to 6-2 on the year and 3-1 in the conference, while the Aztecs improved to 7-2 and 1-1 in the league.
After the teams exchanged opening buckets, San Diego State put together a run to take the lead, going on a 13-2 run to take a 15-4 lead five minutes into the game. From there, the Aztecs continued to build on it, getting the lead to as many as 29 before going into the locker room with a 50-24 halftime lead. The Rams battled in the second half, including a 12-0 run to cut the margin to 16, but could not get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Colorado State finished the game just 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the floor, and 35.0 percent (7-of-20) on threes. San Diego State hit at 55.8 percent (29-of-52) overall and 51.9 percent (14-of-27) beyond the arc. SDSU won the boards 30-27.
The Rams were led by sophomores David Roddy and John Tonje with 15 points each, with Tonje's a new career high. Sophomore Isaiah Stevens recorded his second career double-double with 11 points and 10 assists and was just one rebound away from a triple-double with a career-high nine boards. San Diego State was led by Jordan Schakel with a career-high 28 points.

• Colorado State had 12 turnovers in the first half and San Diego State converted that to a 22-7 advantage in their first half surge.
NOTES
• The two teams have been in a battle over history, with SDSU holding a slight 46-42 lead in games played, including 42-39 in conference action in both the WAC and MW. The Aztecs lead 28-14 in San Diego.
• CSU leader Niko Medved is now 1-4 San Diego State as a head coach.
• The Rams played without junior guard Kendle Moore due to personal reasons. It snaps a streak of 39 consecutive starts for Moore.
• Stevens' 10 assists are the 35th 10-assist game in program history and his points-assist double-double is just the 17th ever for CSU and the fourth player ever to accomplish that for the Rams.
