Joe Freeman is a senior writer at The Oregonian/OregonLive. He covers a wide range of sports, with a primary focus on college and professional teams, and aims to take readers beyond standard game coverage with enterprise and in-depth feature stories. A veteran journalist of nearly 25 years, Freeman started at The Oregonian in 1999 after graduating with a journalism degree from the University of Portland. Over the years, he has covered the NBA, college football and baseball, preps, and everything in between, including a 14-year stint as the Portland Trail Blazers beat writer. Freeman's work has been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors, the Professional Basketball Writers Association, the Society for Features Journalism, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association. He was born in Tallahassee, Florida, grew up in Florida and Alaska, and now lives in Portland with his wife and two daughters.
