Finding the Green Room

Rate this book
*** THIS CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE *** I’ve always known what I was meant to do… surf. I’ve spent practically every day in the water since I was six searching for the green room. This is where I met my best friend, Ryan. We’ve been inseparable for the better part of our lives. He has always ‘just a friend’, and I am ok with that. As time passed, our friendship evolved into what I thought could be love, only to be tested. A chance to go pro, to find the green room, was right within my grasp. I had a choice to make… Ryan or the future I’d only dreamt about? ***This story contains profanity and adult content. It may not be appropriate for readers under the age of 17.

Finding the Green Room was another fantastic story in The Sutter Family series by the absolutely brilliant H. D'Agostino that I couldn't get enough of. See, Ryan & Jessica met when they were young kids who loved to surf. Through the years as they got older, different feelings developed, and came to a head when Jess got offered the chance of a lifetime to go pro in the surfing world. Ryan broke her heart, so when she goes off to live her dream, she doesn't come home until her mother gives her no choice. That's when she comes face to face with Ryan again, and he's on course to hurt her. When he gets his head out of his behind, will she ever forgive him? This story was an emotional story that tried to get my eyes to leak. Ms. D'Agostino has a serious gift at writing such angst, that I literally felt the pain of Ryan & Jess. However, the added in emotion was anger as I was mad as hell at Ryan for his choices while being butt hurt, so I wanted to junk punch him more than once. I absolutely loved Jess, even with some of her flight risk tendencies, so I had her back throughout the whole journey. In the midst of the drama of these two, the colorful cast of secondaries are characters that I love, and they gave some humor & more depth to the story. And the cherry on top of this emotionally yummy sundae, was the twist that kinda threw me for a loop, so f-bombs dropped quite a few times. I LOVE this author, series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Finding the Green Room TO ALL!

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

It’s Ryan and Jess book. They have been best friends since meeting on the beach when they were kids. These two were thick as thieves always together. That is until Jess got her big break and went to chase her dreams leaving Ryan behind. Ryan is jealous that Jess got the break that was the dream he had for himself. Can I just say that ugly green monster does not look well on Ryan.

Jess is forced to face her past and Ryan when has to return home for a wedding. My heart broke for Jess and my opinion of Ryan began to falter. I was never happier when Ryan realized what he wanted and what he needed to do. Just like the other Sutter men it may take them a while to figure it out but when they do there is nothing that would hold them back. The only thing is it could be too late for Ryan in Jess’s eyes.

I loved seeing these two friendships grow from a young age. They truly were the best of friends. I loved seeing Jess in her element with her friends and on the waves. To see Ryan try to woo Jess was great but to see that Jess was making him work hard for it was even better.

Favorite quote just for the fact of who it came from was “I’m not worried about you. You’ll never get married. You cant man up and go after your girl.”

Finding the Green Room is the 3rd book in The Sutter Family Series. I was told that this book could be read as a standalone and I felt that I easily read this book as a standalone but, I want to go back and read books 1 & 2.

This is Ryan Sutter & Jessica Ryland’s story. They met on the beach and became friends at the age of 9. The story unfolds as they grow to their teen years, they continued to surf together and remain friends. Until, one of them surfs so well that they go pro and what happens to the other one. Yes, I was being vague but, this is a really very good story. I enjoyed it immensely! I actually woke up around 3 am this morning and thought that since I am awake I might as well get a little reading time in that is how much I love this story. I could hardly put this book down!

Heather D’Agostino explains The Green Room – traditionally, a sweet spot on a wave where the surfer disappears magically behind the shimmering green curtain of water forms the perfectly breaking cylindrical wave.

I can’t wait to read Cayden’s story Book 4.

I loved this book so much that I did not put it down until it was finished. It just pulled me in and hooked me. While it is book 3 in the series, it can be a standalone but if you have read the first 2 books then you know the characters a bit. Ryan and Jess have been best friends since they were very young. Both surf and live for the water. They are tested when Jess has the opportunity to move west and go pro, while Ryan is left behind. At this point Ryan is a selfish brat, bluntly put, and does everything he can to forget Jess. Fast forward 3 years, Jess comes home for Ryan's sister's wedding. Yeah, trouble is brewing as Ryan wants to hurt Jess as badly as he was hurt. Now there is a happy ending to this book, but the road there is rocky and just wow, some tears may fall.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This one is a good read. It can be read as a standalone but if you have read the previous ones you'll know some of the characters. Ryan and Jess were best friends and surf buddies as kids. There was always something there with them. When Jess got the chance to follow her dream, she went for it. I loved that she went for what she wanted. With Jess gone Ryan becomes a player. I wasn't really sure I was going to like Ryan. He starts out as kind of a cocky mess but he 's really a sweet guy. When Jess comes back for a visit they get to see each other again and rehash things. I was expecting a little bit more angst and struggle then there was. I really loved the use of the green room in this story and it pulled the whole story together in an aha moment.

Book 2 is Ryan and Jessica’s story. Personally Ryan and Jessica took a while to grow on me, they were both strong characters, I simply got annoyed with their immaturity and lack of communication. The story was well written and gave lots of details about this couples history and the mistakes they had made together and individually. As the book was written in dual POV’s it was easy to understand the story and the emotions the characters were dealing with. In the end it was Ryan’s loyalty and unwavering support of Jessica when she truly needed it that allowed him to get under my skin; for me it proved that he was a good man and had grown up.

Another really well written instalment to this series.

I enjoyed getting to know what the Green Room was right off the bat. By Chapter 3, we understand what strained Ryan and Jess's friendship in the earlier books. We see them each at various stages of life. I am not really certain if we will find an HEA at the end of the story based on the beginning and what happens. This is similar to how Leah and Nick started off. There are definitely some similarities, but they are great bonding moments between child and parent in this one. Enjoy the read!

I wasn't sure if I was ready for book three. Ryan Sutter intimidated me because I was not sure if I would want to hear his story. He was such a player in the other books and seemed to care about only himself. I was so wrong! Friends to Lovers but always Friends for Life. The story of Jessica and Ryan and their coming of age is so tender and sweet. My heart just swelled for these two young lovers who were forced to make some of the hardest and most adult decisions while still being so young. I am now looking forward to Cayden!

4.5 stars!

I love the Sutter family - even clueless Ryan with his bestie Jess. There's so many roll your eye moments at Ryan and how he deals with things, especially Jess. But who doesn't have regrets over things they've done in their life? Because Ryan definitely does and thankfully doesn't quite screw it up.

I can't tell you how much I love the Sutter family and how they are. Their family dynamic is something to truly be envious of.
