macOS Upgrade Information

You can get macOS Sonoma in Self Service starting Thursday, November 9, 2023.

Before you begin

Make a backup

Before you upgrade, make a complete backup with CrashPlan, or store your files in OneDrive.

Check compatibility

macOS Sonoma supports most Mac models introduced in 2018 and later. To identify your Mac model, on the Apple menu , select About This Mac.

Notes:

  • macOS Ventura supports most Mac models introduced in 2017 and later. For a complete list of compatible Macs, see macOS Ventura compatible models.
  • macOS Monterey supports most Mac models introduced in 2015 and later, with additional support for Mac Pro and Mac mini. For a complete list of compatible Macs, see macOS Monterey compatible models.

Upgrade to macOS Sonoma

  1. Go to Finder > Applications > Self Service.
  2. Sign in with Drexel Connect.
  3. Under Browse, select OS packages.
  4. Locate macOS Sonoma and select Install.

Tip: If macOS Sonoma isn't listed as an install option under OS packages, it could mean your Mac doesn't meet all of Drexel's security requirements. Contact your IT department or the Drexel IT Help Desk for help.
